|
|
Hi;
I am new to Quark (v.6.5) -- relatively new to graphics! -- and need
help with two colour-related procedures:
1) How to make the background of a picture "transparent":
In another graphics program (with which I'm more familiar), one can
often render a picture's background 'transparent' by exporting the
image as a '.gif with a transparent background' -- one simply assigns
one background colour to be rendered transparent.
a) Is this not possible in QuarkExpress 6?
b) If so, how's it done?
2) How to save and export an image to which a Style-Color change has
been applied:
Using a web layout, I created a picture box, and used Get Picture to
import a .jpg image -- the image is of a musical passage as black
notes on a black music staff, on a white background. I then went to
Style-Color and changed the black notes and staff to a light grey.
Being used to a different graphics program, I wasn't sure how to save/
export this image on its own. I fumbled with Save Picture, saving it
as a .gif. When I opened the image up in my web designing program,
however, the image appeared in its original form and colour, as though
nothing had been applied to it or saved.
My questions:
a) Do Style-Color changes apply to the actual image, or just the quark
project?
b) If they apply to the image, how can I save and export the image so
that it retains the change?
Thanks, in advance, for any help you care to share!

Using Quark Xpress for Web page creation = BAD IDEA
Quark is a page layout program for print production
The web tools are a badly implemented tacked on feature.
If using for print production, you certainly don't want to use .gif files

Michael,
It seems as if you are trying to use quark as a graphics and image
editing application, and it's neither of these. It's a layout program
(purposed for print) that should be used in combination with Photoshop
and Illustrator for image editing. For print you will normally be
dealing with PDF, TIFF, EPS and sometimes JPEG, but never GIF.
You can *sometimes* have luck dropping out the background of an image by
making a clipping path in Quark [Item menu] by selecting non white
areas, but the results can be disappointing and can create other
problems. I'm not sure what support QXP 6 has for transparency or alpha
channels, but if it exists I think it's not very good. AFAIK, better to
create a clipping path in Illustrator or Photoshop.
I'm using an older Quark and just don't know if v.6 can import PSD or
TIFF files with transparent backgrounds and render them properly. Also
have no clue about web layout in Quark or Save Picture. But, again,
Quark isn't really a graphics program, image editor or web design tool.
Are you working on print or web stuff? Anyway, I hope someone else can
be of more assistance. You might try joining the Quark list here:
